The Director of Development will be responsible for implementing a resource development plan that focuses on major gifts.
.Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years experience with a proven record in raising major gifts, grants and endowment funds.
.Candidates must possess a general knowledge of all aspects of resource development and demonstrate outstanding written and verbal skills.
.Candidates must be able to use computers effectively (Word, Excel, Donor Tracking systems, etc.)
Job responsibilities include: (1)the creation of an annual development plan for major gifts and endowment funds including measurable objectives; (2) increase individual donors by building relationships, (3)setting goals, developing materials and tracking progress. This position will also be expected to expand the corporate base through research, writing, and submitting charitable gift proposals. Interaction with Board members, volunteers and staff in the identification of major gift opportunities is vital. Other duties include building upon existing relationships, overseeing special campaigns and other duties as assigned.

I. POSITION CONCEPT
a. To develop, grow and direct a successful Children and Youth ministry and program at Arlington.
b.To give visionary Christian leadership and direction to Arlington’s Children and Youth Ministries.
c. To envision and develop a Children and Youth ministry that will enrich the spiritual growth of our children and youth.
d.To grow share in the overall concern for the general state of the church and its growth, development and spiritual maturity.
e.To work as a part of a staff team.
II. PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
a. A Bachelor’s degree in Christian education or equivalent is preferred.
b. Must exhibit a deep and abiding faith in God, and display strong leadership abilities.
c. Be familiar with United Methodist Literature. Guidance shall be given to youth and children in the use of United Methodist curriculum material.
d. Being a member of the United Methodist Church is a plus.

III. RESPONSIBILITIES
a. Evaluate what is taught and learned in light of Biblical theology and historic Methodist teaching that students might learn to manifest and experience the love of God that was in Christ Jesus.
b. Be a Staff Person that coordinates children and youth education with the understanding that other members of the staff will share in designated opportunities.
c. Be able to work effectively and cooperatively in a team ministry approach, recognizing the needs in all segments of the church.
d. Work with the Work Area on Education in the planning and implementation of Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and special programs, including curriculum design and development for youth, children, and their families.
e. Attend meetings and have a working relationship with the Work Area on Education, Worship Work Area, and Council on Ministries, Children’s Council, and Youth Council.
f. Board liaison coordinator for workday pre-school Child Development Center.
g. Recruiting, training, and supervising lay volunteers for children and youth ministry.
h. Facilitate learning experiences beyond Sunday School, i.e. retreats, VBS, mid-week learning experiences, intergenerational learning endeavors, and short term learning experiences, etc.
i. Supervise and direct the youth ministries including youth counselors. Encourage participation in conference and all youth ministries.
j. Work in other areas with all children and youth levels in the development of programs as needed.
k. Working with the music director, incorporate music appreciation into the youth and children’s program.
IV. RELATIONSHIP TO OTHERS
a. Cultivate and maintain a harmonious relationship with all laypersons in the church.
b. Recognize the need for team ministry within the staff and actively seek the achievement of a team ministry.
