Hillcrest United Methodist Church, a church with multi-ethnic ministry in Nashville Tennessee, seeks a bilingual associate pastor to assist the pastoral team in member care and discipleship. This Associate Pastor will assist the laity and pastors with member care with a special emphasis on outreach ministry to the Hispanic and other multi- ethnic communities.
The new Associate Pastor for multi-ethnic ministry will find a staff and church team ready to welcome a new partner in ministry. We will provide clergy community and mentoring. Our house will be their house, our resources their resources.
Major position responsibilities
1. Work with senior pastor, staff and laity in member care and outreach. We want our multi-cultural/Hispanic ministry to reside within the heart of our church, not as a separate ministry happening inside our building.
2. Continue all ongoing and develop new outreach ministries (e.g. ESL, JFON, Indoor Soccer, Mid-Week programming featuring discipleship for ESL children and adults, seasonal projects and programs, etc.).
3. Launch Hispanic Sunday morning Bible Study in Spanish and integrate Hispanic children and youth into existing Sunday school classes. This synthesis of Anglo, African, African American, Bi-racial and Latino children and teens together in one body may be the most significant part of our plans to do Hispanic and multi-cultural ministry.
4. Begin simultaneous translation of worship services.
5. Facilitate classes in Spanish to help the existing congregation welcome future Spanish speaking Hillcrest members.
6. Develop plans, evaluate needs and to launch a Hispanic worship service.
7. Coordinate additional transportation needs for refugee ESL students beyond existing classes.
8. Assist in responding to inquiries from Spanish-speaking persons.
